Apprenticeship Week with The Skills Network

Apprenticeship Week with The Skills Network
Posted 11 months ago

This week marks National Apprenticeship Week 2018, where we celebrate the success of Apprenticeships and Apprentices across the nation. The aim is to celebrate those who have succeeded due to an Apprenticeship, as well as encouraging others to choose the Apprenticeship route to expand their career development.

Apprenticeships in the UK are on the rise. With the introduction of the Apprenticeship levy in 2017, organisations are looking for a solution to meet the new requirements. Since introducing Apprenticeship delivery at The Skills Network our achieved learners have been able to successfully excel in their chosen career path. Offering a solution for both levy and non-levy paying organisations, we ensure to assist and support business' with any queries they may have.

Whilst we celebrate the success, here is an interview with Hannah Baker, one of our learners who has achieved Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration:

How did you find the sign-up/enrolment process when you enquired and started your Apprenticeship?

The sign-up process for my Apprenticeship was really well planned out and prepared so the whole process went smoothly. My assessor also explained everything to me clearly and I felt I was told all information I needed to proceed with my Apprenticeship. My assessor helped me choose the units I wished to study and helped me with all the paperwork I needed to complete. Everything all got completed in my sign-up session, so as soon as this was completed I was ready to start my learning straight away.

Was your assessor supportive throughout the duration of your course and did they fulfil your expectations of what your assessor should do?

Yes, my assessor was really helpful throughout my whole journey. Regular monthly catch-ups happened, and if I also needed to contact my assessor between these meetings I was also able to. I found the catch-up and reviews really useful and my assessor also told me how I was doing. I also found my assessor really supportive when I needed to complete my IT functional skills.

How do you feel your learning journey went all together?

Overall, my learner journey was enjoyable. I enjoyed the course that I studied and also how it has helped me with my job role. The team and my assessor were really helpful and supportive and made everything a smooth process.

If you had to summarise your Apprenticeship experience with us in three sentences, what would they be?

My Apprenticeship experience with The Skills Network has been very enjoyable. I found that my Apprenticeship helped me with my job and career, and since completion I have progressed in my workplace. This gave me the knowledge and transferrable skills I need to progress.

Read what Justin English, one of our learners who has achieved Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Team Leading, has to say about his experience with The Skills Network:

How did you find the sign-up/enrolment process when you enquired and started your Apprenticeship?

The sign-up process is extremely easy, I myself am not the most PC conversant, yet had no issues and The Skills Network were there to help at every step and stage if needed.

Was your Assessor supportive throughout the duration of your course and did they fulfil your expectations of what your Assessor should do?

My Assessor Paul Brocklebank was very supportive, encouraging when necessary and very realistic in his approach. Even when I knew the answers, yet could not answer directly the question posed, his knowledge as an Assessor managed to extract correctly what was required. This has become prevalent across all who have signed up to courses, the skill set and confidence of individuals that have attended shows every day in the duties and mannerism.

How do you feel about your learning journey overall?

The journey was smooth and what was impressive was the everyday skills we have, yet never think we actually have them, especially in the correct formats. These skills are also useful in many roles and the basic principles are very much the same, no matter what industry you're in. I have not studied since school, so it was very important to have the confidence in The Skills Network to allow me the opportunity to progress.

If you had to summarise your Apprenticeship experience with us in three sentences, what would they be?

Informative, confidence building and a knowledge-based opportunity for an individual to build a solid platform for progression in education, normally not affordable to people already in full-time employment. Personally, it is an invaluable opportunity with hopefully life-changing career prospects.
